Dr. Rivella was part of a team of researches that discovered suppression of the erythroid iron restriction response by isocitrate administration corrected anemia and erythropoietic defects in rats with ACDI (anemia of chronic disease and inflammation). Dr. Rivella was part of a reserach group that discovered using ASOs that targeted Tmprss6, a serine protease, improved anemia and decreased the formation of insoluble globin, ROS, and apoptosis in β-thalassemia mice. Published in the Journal of Clinical Investigation on April 2013.

Dr. Giardina was part a team that researched the effect of deferoxamine and deferiprone on Thalassaemia major patients' heart conditions. Published in Journal of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance on 2013.
